Hey friends, 
My name is Mazey. I currently reside in a small mountain town outside of Colorado Springs, with my supportive husband, Taylor, and our two fur babies, Betty (a 3lb feisty yorkie gal) & Stella Blue (a 70lb pit who loves her food & probably should have been named Eore). I love plants (I probably have 100+), kayaking, traveling anywhere new and secretly... Dance Dance Revolution.

I have been in the beauty industry since the day I started cosmetology school in 2006 , graduating early 2008 and immersing myself at a young age, working along side some of the top stylists in Oklahoma City at the young age of 17.

From the beginning, It was hard not to notice the extreme amount of waste we were creating on a daily basis and kind of go down the rabbit hole when thinking of the terrible environmental effects my job is having on the planet. This sparked my interest in salon sustainability and inspired my dream of creating a more environmentally friendly place to continue to do what I love most. 

In August of 2018, my dream came true! I opened my first salon in Oklahoma City, where we began recycling 99% of our waste. To this very moment our team continues to give people some really amazing hair, meanwhile upholding our core values and our responsibility to the Earth at the same time. Sustain Salon is like my baby & I'm extremely lucky to share what I consider my 'sacred space' with such a talented group of individuals in who share the same love for the environment and our fellow man.

Fast forward to early 2022, and lets be honest, some shit has gone down that I could have never seen coming as a new business owner. The pandemic had me shook. But my team stuck together. We worked everyday to protect our selves, each other and our salon clients. We've even gained a couple awesome people on our crew. I couldn't be more thankful for our team and our guests who have stuck it through to this day.

Over the last 5+ years I have inventoried every single aspect of my salons' waste. Talking with salon product companies, distributors and many other stylists in our industry, I continue to learn new ways to evolve our salons' sustainability practices & my passion for our industry has grown from behind the chair, to helping other salon professionals add sustainable practices in to their already amazing businesses!
 
Recently, I was fortunate to embark on an exciting journey as a co-founder of an extraordinary platform: The Green Beauty Community. This dynamic and inclusive space is dedicated to bringing together like-minded individuals and brands who share a common passion for sustainable beauty. It's literally my dream come true!
